Abyssos ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal household financial planning app published by Shipping Trains L.L.C. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is stored, and the choices you have.
Our approach is simple: Abyssos is built to keep your financial data on your own devices and in your own private iCloud account. We do not operate servers that collect, store, or sell your personal or financial information.
1. Information You Enter
To create plans and projections, you enter household financial information into the App, which may include:
- Household and member names you choose
- Income sources and amounts
- Assets, account values, and growth/yield assumptions
- Expenses and recurring bills
- Liabilities (loans, debts) and payment details
- Savings and financial-independence goals and assumptions
You decide what to enter. None of this information is required by us, and we never see it.
2. Where Your Data Is Stored
Abyssos stores the data you enter in one of two places, based on the storage option you choose for each household:
- On this device — data is kept in a local database on your device only.
- iCloud — data is synced through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to your own private iCloud account so it is available across your devices and can be backed up by Apple.
When you use iCloud storage or share a household with another person, that data is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy and iCloud terms. We do not have access to your iCloud data. We cannot read, recover, or restore it.
We do not transmit your financial data to any servers operated by Shipping Trains L.L.C., and we have no ability to access it.
3. Shared Households
If you choose to share a household with another person, that data is shared through Apple's CloudKit sharing to the people you invite. Those participants can view and, depending on permissions, edit the shared household. Only share with people you trust. Sharing is handled entirely by Apple's infrastructure; we do not receive a copy of the shared data.
4. The AI Assistant (future update)
An on-device AI assistant may be available in a future update of Abyssos on devices that support Apple Intelligence. It is not part of the current shipping experience.
When enabled in a future release:
- The assistant is intended to run on your device using Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device Foundation Models). Your financial figures would be processed locally and would not be sent to us.
- The assistant may optionally perform web searches for general reference information
(such as interest rates, market indices, or product details). Web search would be controlled by a setting
with three modes:
- Local Only (default): No queries leave the App.
- Sanitized: General reference queries (without your personal dollar amounts) may be sent to third-party search providers.
- Full Access: Your query, which may include financial figures, may be sent externally for more accurate results.
- When a web search runs, the query would be sent to third-party services (currently planned: the DuckDuckGo Instant Answer API and Wikipedia). Those services would receive only the search text the assistant generates and process it under their own privacy policies. We would not log or store these queries.
Until that feature ships, Abyssos does not send AI-related queries off device. We will update this Privacy Policy when the assistant becomes available.
5. Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be explicit. Abyssos does not:
- Collect or store your personal or financial data on our servers
- Use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs
- Track you across apps or websites
- Sell, rent, or share your information with data brokers
- Require an account, email address, or login with us
- Connect to your bank or financial institutions
6. Notifications
If you enable notifications, the App may send you local reminders. Push notifications related to iCloud sharing are delivered through Apple's services. You can manage or disable notifications in your device settings.
7. Exporting and Deleting Your Data
You are always in control of your data:
- Export: You can export your data from within the App at any time.
- Delete: Deleting a household or the App removes its local data from your device. For iCloud-stored data, deletion syncs through your iCloud account. Because the data lives in your iCloud, you can also manage it through Apple's iCloud controls.
8. Children's Privacy
Abyssos is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Because we do not collect personal information at all, no such information is gathered through normal use.
9. Security
Data stored locally is protected by your device's security features. Data stored in iCloud is protected by Apple's security and encryption. Because we do not hold your data, the security of your information depends on the protections you keep on your device and Apple account (such as a passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and two-factor authentication).
Optional App Lock
You can optionally require authentication to open the App after it has been in the background. This feature is off by default and can be turned on in Settings under Security.
When enabled, Abyssos uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework and the device Keychain to verify your identity using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. We do not collect, receive, store, or transmit biometric data (such as face maps or fingerprint images). Biometric templates remain in your device's Secure Enclave and are managed entirely by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Your app lock preference and grace-period settings are stored locally on your device (UserDefaults) and are not synced to iCloud or to any servers operated by Shipping Trains L.L.C. Enabling app lock creates a small, device-only Keychain entry used solely to verify unlock; it contains no household or financial data. If you change biometric enrollment on your device, you may need to turn app lock off and on again in Settings.
10. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third parties only as described above:
- Apple (iCloud/CloudKit storage and sync, push notifications, App Store / In-App Purchase, and — in a future update if enabled — Apple Intelligence on-device AI) — see Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Frankfurter (frankfurter.app / api.frankfurter.dev) — optional exchange-rate reference data when you use non-USD household currency features.
- DuckDuckGo and Wikipedia — only if and when a future AI web-search mode is enabled, and only for the search text that feature generates.
We have no business relationship in which your personal data is transferred to us by these services.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and make the current version available in the App and/or our distribution listing. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
